Altair-1, a commercial Earth-observation satellite designed, assembled, integrated and tested at the Orbitworks facility in Abu Dhabi, reached its planned orbit after launching aboard the SpaceX Transporter-18 rideshare from California on 1 October. Orbitworks said the satellite deployed, acquired a signal and entered commissioning. Commissioning means initial checks are under way; it does not mean the full service is already operational. The spacecraft is the first of a planned ten-satellite, AI-enabled constellation, with the other nine scheduled to follow through 2027. Orbitworks says each satellite carries five sensor types: optical, shortwave infrared, thermal, hyperspectral and radio frequency. At full strength, the constellation is designed to revisit any point on Earth about every four hours. Those performance figures remain plans until the network is deployed and validated. Orbitworks lists civilian uses including disaster response, environmental monitoring, food security and infrastructure observation.
