China’s Fanshi offshore wind project begins full operation with 33 18 MW turbines

China’s Fanshi offshore wind project in Yangjiang, Guangdong, entered full operation on September 24, according to a report by the Emirates News Agency in Abu Dhabi that cited China General Nuclear Power Corp.

The 2 GW project consists of two 1 GW developments and has 131 turbines, including 33 units rated at 18 MW. The turbines are installed about 81 kilometres offshore. CGN described the 18 MW group as China’s largest cluster of turbines at that rating deployed at scale.

An official Zhongshan notice issued when the first 18 MW unit was installed in June identified Fanshi II as China’s first large offshore project to use 18 MW-class turbines at scale.
